Iranian ‘Pig’ to vie in Berlin Film Festival

The 68th Berlin Int’l Film Festival is to screen ‘Pig’ by Iranian filmmaker Mani Haqiqi.

Iranian feature ‘Pig’ has been scheduled to compete at the 68th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Germany.

Directed by Mani Haqiqi, the film will go on screen at the official competition section of the German event, the organizers announced on Monday.

‘Pig’ depicts the story of Hassan, a filmmaker who has not been able to make any films lately, but his admired starlet can’t wait any longer and wants to leave and work with another director.

His wife no longer loves him. His daughter has grown up and feels independent. His old mother is suffering from Alzheimer. A distressingly gorgeous woman tracks him everywhere he goes and wants him to give her a role in his films.

Yet worse, an assassin is killing directors of Iranian cinema in the city, but he has paid no attention to Hassan. Now he is hopeless; isn’t he the most important filmmaker of the city? Why then doesn’t the assassin care about him?

The state of affairs becomes more painful when Hassan is accused as the prime suspect for the assassinate cases on the social networks. Now he is forced to make up an intelligent plan to restore his destroyed repute.

Hassan Majouni, Leila Hatami, Leili Rashidi, Parinaz Izadyar and Ali Baqeri are among the flick stars.

‘Pig’ will compete with movies such as ‘3 Days in Quiberon’ by Emily Atef from Germany, Austria and France, ‘Damsel’ by David and Nathan Zellner from the US, ‘Black 47’ by Lance Daly from Ireland and Luxembourg, as well as ‘The Prayer’ by Cédric Kahn from France.

The full list of films in the Competition and Berlinale Special program will be revealed soon.

The 68th Berlinale will run in the German city on February 15-25, 2018.
